Accessing Care & Mental Health Treatment Plans
To help make psychological support structured and accessible, patients can work with their general practitioner to establish a Mental Health Treatment Plan. This collaborative process involves a longer consultation with your GP to discuss your symptoms, set clinical goals, and determine the most appropriate number of subsidized sessions available through Medicare.
β
The Mental Health Care Plan (MHCP) provides you with access to up to 10 relatable sessions with a psychologist in a calendar year (Jan 1 - Dec 31). Your GP is able to authorise 6 sessions with each referral with a review needed before your 7th session.
β
Having a plan in place ensures that your psychological care is seamlessly integrated with your overall medical history and coordinated closely with your regular doctor.
